A Few Ways To Reduce Stress

These days it seems almost impossible to eliminate the stress from our lives. However, these are some easy ways to help reduce it to a manageable level.

Current Events

It’s really no wonder more and more people are becoming seriously stressed. What with swine flu, global warming and the recession getting worse and worse, people have reason to worry. But stressing about these things won’t change them, even though sometimes it’s hard not to. So to avoid being bombarded with dreadful current events that will only stress and depress you, consider having news-free days.

Instead of watching the news at six o’clock, read a book or go for a walk instead. Do something you enjoy instead of hearing all the doom and gloom the world is facing. Avoid the newspaper and the headlines online, and leave the radio off. Naturally this is not something you would do all the time, but just one day without hearing all the negatives from the news media can be highly beneficial.

Workaholics Anonymous

Work is a huge cause of stress for many people. Being a workaholic seems to be commonplace, and many are working overtime to impress the boss, make sure everything is perfect, or, in today’s economic climate, just keep their job.

While there is nothing wrong with having a strong work ethic, it is best to make sure you leave your work at the office. Bringing it home with you can prevent you from being able to relax and unwind after a long day, instead causing you to fret about what needs to be done tomorrow etc. Leaving it behind is a great way to reduce stress in your life.

Procrastination

Being an expert procrastinator myself, I can tell you that putting things off until the very last minute will also cause you unnecessary stress. Whether it’s paying the power bill, buying Christmas presents, finishing an assignment for uni or a report for work, waiting until just before your deadline to start a task is not wise.

Instead of being able to take your time and calmly complete the task to the best of your ability, you are gripped with panic, terrified you may not finish in time. These feelings certainly don’t allow you to feel stress-free. If you want proof of the stress caused by procrastination, simply venture to any mall on Christmas Eve, and see how many last-minute shoppers look calm, cool and collected, and how many look like they’re about to have a stroke.

In these ways you can begin to reduce your stress levels, and become happier and healthier for it. And remember, you can’t add any time to your life by worrying about it.
